M.C.Escher's "Relativity" is one of the finest representations of an all-inclusive consciousness that I can think of. "Relativity" is a perspective that takes in other perspectives. For example, if we were to consider the figures ascending and descending all the various stairways as each representing his or her own belief system/reality, then Escher has given us the point of view that encompasses them all. What if we then were to regard ourselves and other inhabitants of the Earth in the same way? And furthermore, to carry this breadth of vision and detachment into peace-keeping talks? Consciousness expansion resulting from exposure to increasing perspectives is stated in a another way by this astronaut: "The first day or so we all pointed to our countries. The third or fourth day we were pointing to our continents. By the fifth day, we were aware of only one Earth." -Sultan Salman Al-Saud, from the Opening Ceremony of the First Congress of the Association of Space Explorers. |

Art & Physics by Leonard Shlain
"Welcome to the place where Art and Physics intersect. Travel seemingly divergent roads in the realms of Art and Physics and learn how these two disciplines converge and then form parallel paths in space, time and light. Immerse yourself in the insights of best-selling author Leonard Shlain and experience the fusion of art, science and technology." From the synopsis of Art & Physics: "Leonard Shlain proposes that the visionary artist is the first member of a culture to see the world in a new way. Then, nearly simultaneously, a revolutionary physicist discovers a new way to think about the world. Escorting the reader through the classical, medieval, Renaissance and modern eras, Shlain shows how the artists' images when superimposed on the physicists' concepts create a compelling fit. Throughout, Shlain juxtaposes the specific art works of famous artists alongside the world-changing ideas of great thinkers. Giotto and Galileo, da Vinci and Newton, Picasso and Einstein, Duchamp and Bohr, Matisse and Heisenberg, and Monet and Minkowski are just a few of the provocative pairings....." This story is another excellent way to get perspective on different points of view. |
This page will probably always be changing; I intend to add more commentary, and to also add a message board where you can post your own insights and comments about this subject. Also I will be adding more MC Escher links as I come across them. |
