Statue News
SPACE Garn stands for a moment, seemingly in shock, as he takes in the horrific sight before him. It's quite the emotional contrast really, going from the tranquil serenity of Sable's final rest to this gruesome mockery of human life.
SPACE “Alasdair,” the warrior croaks out, “what is that thing?” His voice still thick with the tears he shed over Sable's passing, Garn is an emotional wreck.
SPACE “I’ve never seen anything like it,” Alasdair replies. “It looks like a half-spider, half-human monster.”
SPACE Garn stands and turns to go back toward the cave. “We have to tell everybody else what we found. They'll know what to do.”
SPACE Alasdair hesitates for a moment, then begins back-stepping away from the statue.
SPACE “Y-yeah,” he stammers and then follows the mourning man.
SPACE Making their way through the thick jungle, the pair do their best to navigate a swift return to the cavern.
SPACE Garn stops at one point and crouches low. Alasdair also stops and listens carefully. Turning around to meet the gaze of the bard, Garn puts a finger to his lips and then cups his ear.
SPACE Silence.
SPACE An unusual silence for the jungle. Looking around, danger seems to hide behind each bush and tree. Eventually, a bird calls in the distance. A moment later, insects begin their daily buzzings and chirpings into the jungle. Garn stands, apparently appeased. Alasdair follows his example, and, in no time, the pair arrive at the edge of the jungle.
SPACE They exit the greenery not far from their entry point and approach the cave. That’s when Alasdair stops the return journey, dropping to one knee to look at the sand.
SPACE “Garn, these footprints you saw are walking side-by-side,” he says, tracing the booted footprints in the sand before him. “It’s easy to tell how many there are.”
SPACE Garn turns about and walks back to where Alasdair is kneeling.
SPACE “Five,” the warrior says.
SPACE “See how easy? Now how come you couldn’t tell how many there were yesterday?” the bard continues.
SPACE Garn thinks for a moment and then points down the beach.
SPACE “Cause yesterday they were over there.”
SPACE Alasdair’s eyes widen and he shoots to his feet. His knuckles whiten on his staff. The beach appears deserted.
SPACE “Let’s join the others,” Garn says, walking away toward the cave.
SPACE Alasdair follows, eyes darting back and forth about the beach as if attack were imminent.
"Yeah, sure, right," he says. "Good idea...the others..."
SPACE Garn enters the cave and walks up to the burning fire. Alasdair takes one more look about the landscape before joining him.
SPACE The interior of the cave is deserted. The fire remains burning, however the rest of the group is no where to be found.
