Arachnid Attack

SPACE Conner grabs the fallen glandular torch and spins from his semi-crouched position to face the noise.
SPACE “We fight!” he roars.
SPACE “Conner,” Tharg says, getting to his feet. “Sound you hear? We go back? We go kill?”
SPACE “Tharg!” Conner calls out, running towards the chittering. “Time to kill!” His voice booms and echoes through out the cavern as he bolts back the way he came in.
SPACE Tharg seems to be almost torn between following his barbaric buddy and waiting for further instruction from the pretty cleric, but, in the end, his feet carry him to help defend his brethren.

SPACE Kavan and Tarsis break into a run in pursuit of them.

SPACE Just as the barbarians disappear in the gloom at the other end of the cavern, they are illuminated. Flash after flash of vivid, clashing colors in bright scarlets, soft yellows, and deep blues explode down the tunnel. Several audible splashes follow the spray of colors.

SPACE The chittering stops. Silence fills the corridor.

SPACE Kavan and Tarsis stop short. The cavern again gets dim as the bug-torch has once again fallen beneath the surface of the murky water. Kavan approaches it cautiously. He bends over, looking all around him nervously. His elven companion also seems very nervous. The silence seems painstakingly long. Kavan picks the light source out of the water and shines it about.

SPACE Alliandra and Grant make their way closer, keeping their distance as best they can and still be able to assess the situation for themselves.

SPACE There, lying limp in the water, their faces barely above the surface, are Tharg and Conner.
SPACE Their weapons dropped into the water beside them, they appear to have no physical marks on their bodies. Tarsis bends over Conner’s motionless body.
SPACE “They’re unconscious,” she says aloud.

SPACE The silent sound of whooshing air.

SPACE “Look out!” Grant yells.

SPACE But he is too late.
SPACE A shadow drops from the ceiling and onto Tarsis, knocking her to the floor with a splash. The dark, crawly shadow springs again, this time toward Kavan and into the range of the lightsource.
SPACE Big and ugly, the hairy body of this dog-sized spider advances on him, glistening black eyes fixed on him. The splash of a second spider sounds behind him.
SPACE Grant searches frantically for a weapon, eventually moving toward Conner’s fallen body and, more specifically, his shortsword.
SPACE Kavan slams the butt-end of the spear that holds the beetle gland into the water, where it sticks and stands straight up into the air.
SPACE The warrior put two hands on his shortsword and braces himself for whatever comes next.

SPACE A familiar scream echoes in the corridor behind them. Garn’s holler is followed by a terrible splash.

SPACE The spiders pounce.
