Ca' Foscari - Francesco Foscari, doge of Venice from 1423 to 1457, spent his boyhood in Egypt where his father had been exiled for reasons that are still mysterious. During his dogeship the Venetians extended their sway as far as the banks of the river Adda in Lombardy, as a result of a ten-year war against the Viscontis of Milan.
