Trina Stolec
SOAR

He thought he could fly like superman.
Thought the currents would support him.
He had the faith to trust
                                the invisible
to guide him, keep him aloft.
He perched on the edge of his garage roof,
in paint-splattered tennis shoes,
spread his homemade canvas wings
and watched the birds and bats.
Sometimes he'd even flap with them
before he'd climb down the ladder,
plant his feet in the ground,
drift off to sleep
and dream of birds
and flight.
