Dave Bishop
AN EXALTATION OF GRASS

blessed are they
whose roots are in the earth

In the beginning
your roots ran long into the soil
like the grass
you rose up in the spring
magnificent
to dance before the fury in the sky

your summer breasts burst with seed
you wore the garments of fall
you fell to winter's dust
and were consumed
and like the grass you rose again

blessed are they who rise with the light
and lay themselves down on the earth
to share their dreams with the sun
