stretching up to touch the sky,
standing through the wind of time...
Standing...Enduring.

Snow-swept slope...lichen upon the rock...patient, slow.
Deep weight pulls me downward,
where the trees hunger for breath,
grasping for the sky,
thirsting,
clutching roots into rock.

Down...into warmth and wetness...
trees drinking of soil and sky,
slaking their thirst...
stretching upward, inward, downward.

Forest...rising.
Deep forest, dim and cool...
blanket of Life and Death upon the rock,
thick with the memory of season upon season.
