Ever found yourself involved in a "Cyber romance"? Well many people have and often give up hope of it ever being more than an online infatuation. Don't give up hope, if it's meant to be it will and here is a true story of two people who followed their hearts.

Sunday Herald Sun, October 19, 1997.
'Cyber pair to tie the knot'
Vicky Cooper and David Robertson did not meet under traditional circumstances. In fact, it is surprising they came together at all. He runs Williamstown Diamond Computers in Melbourne's western suburbs and she drives a school bus in Memphis, Tennessee. Five months ago Vicky started chatting to David via the Internet. They connected-and the couple plans to marry early next year.

'It has been a whirlwind romance,' said 41-year-old Vicky. 'But it is the real thing. He's everything I thought he would be.' Which is lucky, considering Vicky accepted David's marriage proposal before they had met in person. It was truly a cyber love affair- they met on the internet, he proposed in the internet, she accepted on the internet. 'That's the beauty of it' said David, also 41. 'You get to know each other very well and become friends before the romance develops.'

They stumbled on to each other after discovering a mutual interest in trucks. David was a truck mechanic before injury forced him to retrain as a digital computer technician. Vicky worked as a Tax examiner but harboured a dream to become a truck driver. She was attracted to his sense of humour. He enjoyed her wit and sense of adventure. But it was only meant to be friendship and the pair often talked about other relationships and their family. 'But within a month I realised it was developing into something more' Vicky said. 'I was becoming obsessed with him. I couldn't wait to get to the computer every morning just to hear from him. Because of the 15-hour time difference it meant many late nights and early mornings, often with me dashing out the door for work without breakfast or even a shower. That's when I knew this was becoming serious'.

David was also keen for the relationship to develop and invited the divorced mother of two to visit. 'My mother was against it' Vicky said. 'She argued that it was insane to travel halfway around the world for someone you had never even met'. But after exchanging photographs and making $1000 worth of phone calls to David, Vicky decided to take the plunge and arrived in August. She said she landed at Tullamarine exhausted and afraid David would not be there to meet her. And David said 3I was feeling nervous, too.' 'I had asked her to marry me. I thought we knew each other well but then we hadn't actually met. It was a big gamble but it has certainly paid off'. The pair hope to marry early next year and live in Williamstown. Vicky had to return to Memphis to settle her teenage children. 'But as soon as I can I will be back' she said. 'We'll get married and live happily ever after'.
