This year has marked the resurgence of the Illayaraja family. Illayaraja has already had a hit in Friends, Yuvanshankar's Dheena is on the top of the charts and Karthikraja has already had a release in Vanchinathan. But with this movie, Karthikraja stakes his claim for his rightful place among Kollywood composers. He revels in what he does best - soft hummable melodies which strike an instant chord with the listener. Puyale, Puyale is a nice song, even though it does not have any major accomplishments by way of extraordinary lyrics or music. Udit Narayan seems to have become a regular in Karthikraja's stable, especially when it comes to movies of Prabhu Deva. He had earlier sung for Naam Iruvar Namakku Iruvar and Kadhala Kadhala, both of which starred Prabhu Deva and had music by Karthikraja. Uyire, Uyire is a soft and absolutely lovable bit song, expecially those places where Hariharan breaks into Hindustani style alaaps. Kavithaigal Sollava is the title song and has rightly been beamed countless times into our homes thanks to the numerous cable TV channels. S.P. Balasubramaniam and Sujatha impress in the ballad, which has Western-style orchestra arrangements. Anbe, Anbe is a typical Unnikrishnan-type soft song, with some good trumphet and flute accompaniments. Anjala, Anjala is a fast-paced song by Devan and Harini and reminds you of songs from Karthik's scores for Naam iruvar namakku iruvar and Kaadhala, Kaadhala. Adada, Adada and Oru palai vanathai are cute bit songs by Hariharan, who also sings a version of the title song, minus the female track. Karthikraja and Hariharan again sing a few lines in Kathavai Naan. King Da, Annan King Da by Mano, Prabhu Deva and Yuvanshankar, is a sureshot winner and will definitely be counted among the best dance songs of Prabhu Deva, even though it is very similar to the song Shiva, Shiva, Shiva, Shankara from the movie Swayamvaram. Overall, a very good reason to herald the coming back of Karthikraja.
