Note: This and all my other knights pages are very graphics intense and contain lots of animations. As a result, they are a little slow to load. Your patience is appreciated. Thank You.

I'm really interested in knights, swords, armor, castles, and almost anything of the kind. Grandpa Springer agreed to put this page together for me. I hope that you are interested too! If you find anything that might fit on this page, please E-mail me and let me know.

I first got interested in knights, castles, etc. by seeing the Disney movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". I like all the characters, but especially Captain Phoebus, and the gargoyles.

For Christmas I got my very own castle complete with knights, and a sword. I spend LOTS of time playing with them.

People in the Middle Ages believed in all sorts of cool animals besides dragons. My personal favorite is the unicorn. To see pictures of unicorns and find out more about them, click on the drawbridge below.

When knights first began to use shields, they decorated them. Soon each knight had his own design. It became a way of identifying each knight on the battlefield. These shields looked like the many you see on this page. From this, came the art of Heraldry, and coats of arms for each knight or member of the nobility. Heraldry developed into a very complicated thing. Coats of arms are still used today. To see how Heraldry has developed, click on the crown below.

You might be able to think of others, but here's a perfect example of one way in which Heraldry is used today. This is the crest of Grandpa Springer's old college fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega ( AFW).

One of the main sports practiced by the nobility during the middle ages was that of falconry. It's still practiced as a sport today. For more information, click on the picture of the goshawk below.

Our family has an award which we give to those visiting our site. The only requirement is that your site be "child friendly". To find out more, click on the bar below.

If you were a knight in the Middle Ages, you were excpected to behave in a certain way. This was called The Code of Chivalry. To see the Ten Rules of Chivalry, click on the knight below.

Have you seen the movie "First Knight" with Sean Connery as King Arthur, Julia Ormond as Queen Gwenivere, and Richard Gere as Lancelot? I've seen it about a zillion times! I really like it, and so does Grandpa. But Grandpa says there's only one Sir Lancelot, and that's some Canadian dude named Robert Goulet (whoever that is). Anyway, to find out about the movie, click on Sir Gawain's shield below.

During the Middle Ages, all kinds of weapons were used - not just swords and lances. There were even machines which threw rocks to knock down castle walls. These were called "catapults", and here is a picture of one:

FOOTNOTE

This page started out to be a simple project just for the amusement of my four year old grandson Daniel. It just kind of grew and grew. There are a couple of reasons for this. I am a historian, I'm kind of fascinated by the era myself, and there's an incredible amount of material available.

I asked my son Marc to look at this page. He thought it was great, but took too much time to load, and with the amount of graphics, he was right. This lead to the creation of yet another page about the Middle Ages. If you can stand it, click on the banner below to go to the second page.

Since the inception of Schloß Von Springer, we have received a number of awards; some for which we've applied, and some unsolicited. To go to a page which lists all of our awards, click on the bar below.

Thank you Sir Lancelot!
