Credo (I believe)

Wicca is non creedal, meaning that there is no creedal test one has to pass to belong. The Neopagan movement itself is non creedal. Most of the belief I express here are common (although not universal) among neopagans. I doubt that I am saying anything unique. I just felt a need to express my beliefs.

I have been influenced by my membership in the Unitarian Universalist Church and The Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism.

(1)The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
(2)Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
(3)Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
(4)A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
(5)The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
(6)The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
(7)Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

I have also been influence by my many friends who are hackers and introduced me to the The Hacker Attitude the basic premises of which are:
"1. The world is full of fascinating problems waiting to be solved.
2. Nobody should ever have to solve a problem twice.
3. Boredom and drudgery are evil.
4. Freedom is good.
5. Attitude is no substitute for competence"

These are my statements of belief.

My beliefs about the nature of the universe and the gods.

I believe that everything that exists is a manifestation of divine spirit and therefor sacred.
I believe that the universe is essentially chaotic having no inherent distinctions and that all apparent distinctions are illusions created by us to assist in our conception of our surroundings.
I believe that all religions are attempts to comprehend the truth of our existence and should be respected for that.
I believe that it is possible to experience directly the true nature and mystery of the universe and many people in many cultures have, but it is not to possible to explain it.
I believe that "gods" are part of our experience of the universe, although their exact nature is not known and may not be what it is believed to be.

My beliefs about ethics.

I believe that we are all part of the interdependent web of existence and do not act without being acted upon in turn.
I believe that Freedom, truth, justice, equality and compassion are virtues.
I believe that Spiritual growth is valuable and worthwhile and that any path followed sincerely can lead to spiritual growth.
I believe that people must be free to find what ever truth the divine spirit leads them too as long as they do not do so at the expense of others.
I believe that free and informed consent are necessary to avoid spiritual harm.
I believe that the needs of the individual and the needs of the community can never be totally reconciled but must be constantly negotiated.
I believe that death is a natural part of the cycle of life and should be not be hastened or fought, beyond the necessity to ease suffering.
