~§~ Tehuti ( Tahuti, Thoth ) ~§~

~§~ Lord Tehuti being the God of wisdom and learning. Lord Tehuti was said to be self-created in the beginning along with his consort, Lady Ma'at (truth). The two produced eight children to the world, Amen (Amun), Amenet, Heq, Heqet, Nun, Naunet, Kau, Kauket, the most important one being Lord Amun. Alternately being depicted as an ibis-headed human, an ibis, or a baboon ( or dog-headed ape ). Lord Tehuti carries a pen and scrolls with which he records all things.

            [Lord Tehuti]                                                  [Lady Ma'at]

Lord Tehuti was believed to have filled many roles in the world of the Netjeru. It was said that Lord Tehuti invented writing and was the vizier and official scribe of the afterworld, and that the Book of the Dead was written by him. Lord Tehuti and Lady Ma'at were believed to stand on either side of Lord Re in his boat as he (as the Sun) traveled across the sky.It was thought that they also may have directed the course of the boat took.It was widely believed that Lord Tehuti invented the magical and hermetic arts, thus we get today the term Tarot deck that is referred to as the "Book of Thoth". He was associated with the moon; as the sun vanished, Lord Tehuti tried to dispel the darkness with his light. It was also said in the Egyptian myth's that Lord Ptah was in the helping of Lord Tehuti in the making of the heavens and earth as Lord Tehuti specified.

Lord Tehuti is shown attending all major scenes involving the Netjeru, but most especially at the judgment of the deceased. It is here that Lord Tehuti (shown as a dog-headed ape) sits on the top of the balance that weighs the heart of the deceased to determine if it is as light as Lady Ma'at. The concept of Lady Ma'at is one of truth, justice, and "that which is straight". It may even be related to "cosmic order". The baboon Tehuti informs the ibis-headed Tehuti when the balance is at equilibrium. The ibis-headed Tehuti then makes his report to the Netjer who then passes the judgment on the deceased. ~§~
