Hiking

One of Vance's favorite pastimes is hiking. Here are accounts of a few walks I've made.

Hiking in Northern California

Hiking was one of the most pleasant all-weather past times for us here in Northern California. We hiked on the San Andreas Fault, Mt. Tamalpais, Muir Woods, Alum Rock Park, Big Basin Redwood Park, Point Reyes, Castle Rock State Park, and bits of the Pacific Crest Trail around Lake Tahoe and Yosemite.

It would be possible to make some pretty neat hikes here. You can walk almost from where we live to the ocean through the coastal range and redwood forests in about two or three days, though we drove to the summit and walked down in an afternoon when we made the trip leading to the Great Raccoon Fiasco. Another area I'd like to explore a lot more thoroughly is the Pacific Crest Trail, which essentially runs from Canada to Mexico, so you can pick your trailhead. But now I've left California having only walked a few kilometers of that trail.
