When a mother saw a
thunderstorm forming in
mid-afternoon, she worried about
her seven-year-old daughter who would be walking
the three blocks from school to home.
Deciding to meet her,
the mother saw her walking nonchalantly along,
stopping to smile whenever lightning flashed.
Glimpsing her mother, the little girl ran to her,
explaining enthusiastically,
"All the way home,
God's been taking my picture!"

When I was a child, growing up in the
Midwest
I was unaware of my Mother's terror of storms..
I remember standing at the large window,
listening to her describe the beauty and magnificence
of the raging thunder, the howling wind and the
sharp bolts of lightening.
I was an adult before I was to know of the terror she felt
and the facade she portrayed, so that her daughter would never experience the terrible
fear of the lightening and thunder..
I will forever
cherish her gift to me,
because today I find such beauty and delight
in the raging tempest of the majestic storms
which sweep across the land.
