ΕΙΣ ΕΚΑΤΕΝ
To Hekate
Εινοδίην Εκάτην κλήζω, τριοδίτιν, εραννήν,
(Ee-noh-dee-een Eh-kah-teen klee-zoh, tree-oh-dee-teen, eh-rah-neen)
Praise unto Ekaten, who is worshipped on the roads and the crossroads,
ουρανίην, χθονίην τε, καί ειναλίην κροκόπεπλον,
(oo-rah-nee-een, chthoh-nee-een teh, keh ee-nah-lee-een kroh-koh-peh-ploh-n)
The Lovely, the Celestial and Chthonian, and of the Sea, Who wears the yellow veil,
τυμβιδίην, ψυχαίς νεκύων μέτα βακχεύουσαν,
(teem-vee-dee-een, psee-heh-s neh-kee-oh-n meh-tah vahk-heh-voo-sah-n)
She who cares for the dead, and who is exalted among the Souls of the Dead,
Πέρσειαν, φιλέρημον, αγαλλομένην ελάφοισιν,
(Per-see-an, phee-leh-ree-moh-n, ah-gahl-loh-meh-neen eh-lah-foh-ee-seen)
She who is friend of solitude and rejoices with the deer,
νυκτερίην, σκύλακίτιν, αμαιμάκετον βασίλειαν,
(neek-teh-ree-een, skee-lah-kee-teen, ah-meh-mah-keh-toh-n vah-see-lee-ah-n)
Nocturnal, Protector of dogs, the unconquerable Queen,
ταυροπόλον, παντός κόσμου κλειδούχον άνασσαν,
(taf-roh-poh-loh-n, pan-toh-s koh-smoo klee-doo-hoh-n ah-nas-san)
She who hunts the Bulls, the Queen who holds the keys of the world,
ηγεμόνην, νύμφην, κουροτρόφον, ουρεσιφοίτιν,
(ee-geh-moh-neen, neem-feen, koo-roh-troh-fon, oo-reh-see-fee-teen)
The Guide, the Bride, she who wanders on the mountains,
λισσομένοις κούρην τελεταίς οσίησι παρείναι,
(lees-soh-meh-nees koo-reen teh-leh-s oh-see-ees-ee pah-ree-neh)
This Daughter let us beseech, to be present at this sacred ritual
βουκόλω ευμενέουσαν αεί κεχαρηότι θυμώ.
(voo-koh-loh ev-meh-neh-oo-san ah-ee keh-ha-ree-oh-tee thee-moh)
With always a benevolent mood towards the Chief and be with glad heart.
