SURELY YOU WILL DIE

AND

SURELY THEY WILL DIE

[Soorat Az-Zumar 39:30]

Surely dear reader, you will die. Allaah informed the Prophet of the reality of his death by saying to him, "Surely, you will die..." [Soorat Az-Zumar 39-30].

Therefore it is a reality. It comes once a lifetime just once. No second chances. Surely, you will die , your family will die, your loved ones will die, your enemies will die, even death will die.

The Messenger of Allaah said, "On the Day of Resurrection death will be brought forward in the shape of a black and white ram. Then a call maker will call, "O People of Paradise!" Thereupon, they will stretch their necks and look carefully. The caller will say, "Do you know this ?" They will say, "Yes, this is death." By then all of them will have seen it then it (the ram) wil be slaughtered and the caller will say, "O People of Paradise, enternity for you and no death. O people of Hell, eternity for you and no death." [Saheeh Al-Bukharee 6/#254].

Surely, the best human, the Messenger of Allaah died. Abu Bakr, `Umar, `Uthman, `Alee, and the rest of the sahaba, those whom Allaah is pleased with and those who are pleased with Allaah, died. Your Great-great grandparents died.

Do they walk the earth anymore ? Can you see them ? Look for them. Then look again and yet again, your sight will return to you in a state, your sight will return to you in a state of humiliation and worn out [Soorat Al-Mulk 67:4].

Will they die and you live forever ? Of course not. Allaah says, "Everyone shall taste death" [Soorat Aale`Imraan 3:185].

You- who wanted to see tomorrow,

You- who wanted to be at that appointment,

You- who wanted to give charity next week,

You- who wanted to make Qiyaamul-Layl,

You- who wanted and wanted to do,

You will certainly die before that one tomorrow will never come. Indeed, for everyone there is that one tomorrow which will never come. Is yours tomorrow ?

Leaving this world is a reality that has been made doubtful to us by Shaytaan, the rejected.

Allaah's Messenger said, "Jabreel came to me and said: O Muhammad! Live as you will for you must certainly die; love whom you will sinceyou must certainly leave him; act as you will since you shall certainly be given due reward for it... [Silsilaat Al-Ahadeeth As-Saheehah 2/#831]. The reality will come, for Allaah says, "And the agony of death will come in truth: This is what you have been avoiding!" [Soorat Qaf 50:19].

Therefore O Slave of Allaah, remember death much. The Messenger of Allaah said, "Increase your dhikr (remembrance) of the destroyer of unlawful pleasures: death..." [Saheehul-Jami' As-Sagheer 1/#1222].

Our souls need to be reminded constantly of death. Through the remebrance of death our hearts are cleansed. Abdullaah ibn Al-Mubarak (a teacher of Imaam Al-Bukharee] said, "Surely when the dhikr of death parts from me for an hour, it corrupts my heart" [Az-Zuhd wa Ar-Raqaaiq o Ibnul-Mubarak p.88].

"Know that the involvement in the World and falling into its deception, the love for its desires, makes the heart heedless, leaving no room for the remembrance of death, so the person does not remember death. And when it is mentioned he hates it and flees from it. These are those about whom Allaah has said, "Verily, the death from which flee will surely meet you, then you will be sent back to (Allaah) the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen, and He will tell you what you used to do" [Soorat Al-Jumu'ah 62:8] [Tahdheeb Mawi'dhatul-Mumineen min Ihyaa `Uloom Ad-deen, Shaykh Muhammad Al-Jamaaludeen Al-Qaasimee Ad-Dimishqee p. 395].

And Allaah Knows Best.
