Prisoner

        Taking flight sets a person free. We're not talking about plane travel, but the flight of the soul. Happiness can make a person feel "free as a bird" but that top of the scale feeling does not last continuously. We search too hard for the feeling and sometimes miss what can be right in front of us to set us free. The joyful feeling of Spring with its new birth is filled with beauty, yet in the middle of the celebration of new birth, there are many who are so imprisoned that it might as well be winter. In a sense we carry our environment within us, we create our own season. We tie ourselves with bands of thought and patterns of behavior. As we live within these patterns of behavior, they become comfortable to the point where we know no other way to live. We begin to think that the way we are is the way it has always been, or the way it should be. We do not see the beauty, the light, the freedom of what might be. There is no spring. There is only one season. As we look to another day, another season, an aware awakening can happen. Little by little we can make changes, and in making those changes we can begin to unwind some of the bands that bind us. As we celebrate new life, as we celebrate our life, let us remember the beauty of Spring.
