Student 1:
"I liked that conference with David Moore. He told us a lot about Blackbeard, the Pirate. He showed us Blackbeard's head hanging off the front of the ship after he had died, but it didn't look right because it wasn't colored.

I learned that he didn't have any children that were known of but he could possibly have some. I learned that they know where one of his wives lived. It's told that his "Queen Anne's Revenge" was actually a slave ship called the Concorde but Blackbeard turned the slaver into the slave! Besides being the Captain, he slept sometimes letting others be in charge.

I think that next time, they should make it colored. It would be more interesting to see Blackbeard's artifacts in color. Plus, they should give more time because it will allow more time to answer questions about Blackbeard. Next time, he should dress up as Blackbeard because it would be like it would be from Blackbeard's point-of-view."

Student 2:
"I liked the picture of the head on the ship and the bell. One of the pictures I liked most was of the ship. I thought it was cool to be able to see what other classes and other people saw and read on the computer. I also liked the picture of Blackbeard.

I learned that Blackbeard had fourteen wives and that after they killed Blackbeard they made his skull into something to drink out of. I learned that his ship was not very big, that one hundred and fifty people lived on his ship, and that he never made anyone walk the plank.

I think it could have had more pictures to make it better. I wish it had a picture of some of the jewelry Blackbeard stole!"

Student 3:
"I liked the pictures that David Moore showed us of Blackbeard because it told one more than words. It helped me know what people that were there looked like and what all of them were doing.

I liked when he answered our questions because I learned a little about Blackbeard. They have found some of his belongings and some gold dust. Blackbeard did not kill one person that we know of and he was only about 38 when he was killed. He never made anyone walk the plank and that nobody betrayed him but he betrayed them.

They could have showed us more pictures to make it better.....like what they were talking about....the gold dust or some of Blackbeard's belongings or something like that. They should try to find out more about Blackbeard and his family."

Student 4:
"I learned that.... there were no dungeons on the ship. No known bones were ever found! He never made anyone walk the plank. He never buried his treasure......he spent it before he had a chance. His head was hung on his ship as it sank. His ship was used in a war, which it got its name from. The Queen Anne's Revenge is its name. We suppose it sunk somewhere around New Bern or Bath. But we know it sunk. He carried around six guns or pistols and a sword.

I liked....being able to see other classes and people. I got to see a class from Beverly Hills. I like seeing myself on the computer. I also liked being about to ask questions and them being answered!

I suggest........ you make the picture bigger so I can see it better, other than that, no suggestions to fix it."

Student 5: "I liked most of the questions. They were funny! I also liked being able to ask my questions about Blackbeard.

I learned that he was a very mean, had a big beard, and a sailing ship. He also carried at least 6 guns and 1 sword. When he died, he had 5 gun holes in him and 20 sword wounds and people say he circled the boat at least 5 times. He had many wives but no children. He was at least in his 30s when he became a pirate. He stole gold and captured people off of their boats.

You could make the show better by finding out more about Blackbeard like how Blackbeard lived in different places and how many crimes....how he put people in horror and how he treated his other men pirates."

Student 6:
"I liked the part where he showed the picture of Blackbeard's head on the boat. I also liked being on the computer, too.

We learned a lot from the "Town Meeting with David Moore about Blackbeard." The Queen Anne's Revenge was a boat that was stolen. He had fourteen wives. He was born in London. He did not make people walk the plank because that was 100 years later. Mr. Moore thought that Blackbeard's 14th wife's name was Mary.

We can make the videoconference better by getting color cams. If we get color cameras, they could see us better that way."

Student 7:
"I learned that Blackbeard was a pirate that robbed ships that went by his boat and stole most of their treasure. He would sometimes light slow-burning bits of rope hung under his hat. It made him look scary to others! When he got his head chopped off, he swam around the boat a couple of times until he sank down to the bottom. Some of the things said about Blackbeard weren't true. Sometimes, Blackbeard would tell or claim that all the treasure was his but only some of it was. I think he killed his crew members for their treasure!"

Student 8:
"I really liked what David Moore did on the Internet on the computer because it tells us a lot about Blackbeard and what he did. I especially liked the picture with Blackbeard's head was cut off and put on a stalk.

What I learned about Blackbeard was very interesting because we found out a lot of things we did not know before the conference. The QAR was a little ship and there were 150 people on that one ship. I also learned he didn't make people walk the plank because they didn't start doing that until 100 years later.

What would have made it better is to find more things out about Blackbeard that you didn't know about. Also try to find some more treasures down in the sea. Study about that stuff that you got out of the sea and put them into the museum."

Student 9:
"I liked the videoconference because it had us inside of the computer.

Blackbeard's real name was Edward Teach. He was born in England or in Jamaica. He was said to have 14 wives. He was one of the most famous of the pirates. He terrorized the Carolina coast. Blackbeard's ship was called the Queen Anne's Revenge which he probably stole when he was in a war. The best treasure on the ship was the bell. He probably stole as many as 50 ships. He had 25 wounds like gun and sword cuts before he died. The last thing he said was.....'I buried my treasure where none but Satan and myself can find it.'

You can make it better by making games like Blackbeard's Revenge and Checkers."

Student 10:
"I learned that Blackbeard swam around his boat a few times after dying. They put his head on the end of the boat.

I liked when Blackbeard was killed. We got to see his head on the end of the ship. They used his skull for a drinking cup.

They could have made it better by showing some of the things that Blackbeard had like the guns or the sword he had...maybe even the gold dust, how the maps looked, what the ship looked like before it sank, how Blackbeard looked with his beard on fire, how he looked when he was young and when he died. How did he spend all his time in towns and cities? What kind of things did he steal? What ships did he steal from? Did he sleep at night or was he like a bat and stayed awake at night?"

Student 11:
"I liked it when David Moore showed the picture of the bell and it had its date on it. I also like when we could see other classes and we could see our class.

I learned a lot about Blackbeard. His head was chopped off. He had about 13 wives and they are not sure if he had any children.

To make your show better you need to dress up like Blackbeard and come to classes. On the computer you need to show more pictures of things and put a site on the computer that everyone could go to and see.

I think your show was very, very good because I learned a lot of things. I found out how many guns he had and what kind he had........and how many he carried everyday. I did not know he did that to ships."

Student 12:
"I liked the Blackbeard Town Meeting Presentation because I learned things about him.....such as what was done with his head, and what weapons he used to kill people. He never really made people walk the plank. He had hideouts for the Queen Anne's Revenge and how the ship got its name from the battle that Blackbeard was in. Blackbeard thought his wife was a witch.

I thought of a way to make the Blackbeard thing better and get more people attending. OK, this is what you need to do: You need to find out more about Blackbeard......like how many people were on the Queen Anne's Revenge when it sank and did he ever let somebody go without killing them."
