My report from the World Petroleum Congress protest

It's not very obvious from a page that is mainly dedicated to spanking republicans - but I'm Canadian. The reason I go on about American politics is because you guys have all the nukes and (coincidentally) all the money. America is also among the most reactionary countries in the industrialized world.

Besides, what's happening in Canada is pretty well the same - corporate collaborators use seige tactics against hospitals, until the dead and crippled pile up so high that the people surrender, assuming that nothing could be worse. Workfare is the "new wave" - as if there's progress in making the working class compete with low-paid, single mothers! As everywhere, the status quo licks its lips at the thought of generational conflict, as education and retiremement interests fight over the oats in the shit of the wealthy.



The Canadian (unholy) Alliance

Here in Canada we also have a "holier than thou" political party. The Canadian alliance is our local combination of people who love to gripe and bitch and cry and whine about taxes, then top if off with a gripe and bitch and cry and whine about how politically correct liberals are, then gripe and bitch and cry and whine about how intolerant to "christians" liberals are.

Yet they summed up their true attitudes in an interview I saw during the election. The question was about how they could moan about taxes so much since Jesus considered the love of money to be the root of all evil. The Alliance member agreed with Christ then said with a big "BUT" that things had gone too far. Yes, the Alliance thinks that we are TOO Christian, and agrees that those supposedly intolerant against "christians" liberals are more Christian than them. To explain how things are just too Christian for the alliance, it was explained that "some people feel they spend half the year slaving for the government" - not a lie, since people do FEEL that way, but some people FEEL the lepracauns telling them to burn things. FACTS are more important.

Makes you think, the way these people have to proclaim every ten seconds that they are more "christian" than the rest of us. If someone told me every ten seconds that they really do NOT find kangeroos sexually attractive, maybe it would be going to far to call them a roo-humper but...Still...You have to wonder. Like republicans who feel the need to remind us that they are "patriotic Americans". Like if they did it less often they would forget what country they are from.

And then they go on about their DIVERSITY. Yes, they have a very diverse range of theocrats in their party, they have the Spanish Inquizition, the Taliban, theocratic maniacs from every continent, ready to demand money from us to keep us from going to Hell, Hades, or being reincanated as Rush Limbaughs Tapeworm or whatever. Thanks for proving that cults are not a white monpoly, but no thanks.

Just today I watched on CBC as the right-wing "progressive conservatives" (yes, that's their name!) and the right wing "reform party" joined into a party which has yet to be named - though all the suggestions they're choosing between are Orwellian in the extreme, including one 5 words long, which I'm rooting for!. The Reorm party leader, Preston Manning, made a speech waxing on a brave new world of reform and progress and bold initiatives and putting kids to work in the coal mines etc. He said that what all Canadians had in common was that they had "courage" and "left the old world for the new"...Oh really? ALL Canadians?

Conservatives just wish that natives would just stop existing. It's rather awkward to admit that the status quo is stolen, and stolen from some very lefty civilizations to boot. The Inuit had a method of law and order by which if you didn't like someone, you got up and moved on. And it worked.

In Ontario Orwellian rhetoric ia alive and well with the "common sense revolution" - that's is common sense is the first up against the wall and lezarius is off to the guilitine. Destitute people who panhandle for coins are to be arrested, which politicians who panhandle for big bussiness bucks are heros - but whatever you do, don't blame all this on the Canadian people.

Americans who advocate third parties beware - in Canada the two liberal parties collectiveley defeat the conservatives, but the right ends up in power because the liberal vote is split.
