If there is one character in this whole movie who leaves you breathless, it's Curt Wilde. Even from the very first time you see him, a man on the streets giving his view on homosexuals and the glam scene, you think "This is someone to remember.." Well, of course after his showstopping performance with his band the Rats, you know he's someone to remember. It's glitter, glam, and heroin for this Detroit native junkie who gets his kicks by revving up his crowds with a high adrenaline, sexed up show.
The character Curt Wilde, played by the incredibly sexy cult hero of the deace, Ewan Mcgregor, is a mix of glam greats Lou Reed and T-Rex (Marc Bolan) among others. The shock treatment to cure homosexuality is something taken straight from Lou Reed's life.
Curt Wilde started out singing in a garage band back in Detroit and soon started playing festivals around the country. One day during a very unique performance, Brian Slade happens to be there, and happens to see Curt, which happens to change Brian's life. This image of a man so ruthless and yet so beautiful inspires Brian to go for a full image change, thus making Brian a huge star. His first request is to go to America...and meet Curt! It is a chance meeting and blossoms into a full fledged love affair which, in the end, wilts bitterly.
Curt Wilde is the scene-stealing character, throughout the film he tends to be the one you watch for, the one you wait for, the one who keeps you on the edge of the seat. I guess he's supposed to have more depth than Brian anyway, for Brian is meant to be a mystery.
