I am the biggest sports fan in the world. One may beg to differ, but I will admit that my entire life revolves around sports. Call me pathetic for finding enjoyment in the glorification of others, but I find sport more than two combatants battling each other. Sport to me exemplifies the pureness of the human spirit by the struggles and successes each sports offers a person. So now that you know what sports mean to me, here's a look as to who or what teams I celebrate with.
I will first honor the team with whom I share the most emotional ties. The New York Yankeesare not only my favorite baseball team, but they are my favorite professional sports team. My favorite current player is Bernie Williams--the best all-around player today. I enjoyed the team's record-breaking 1998 campaign, however, the 1996 championship run is far more special to me due to the fact that that was the first time I witnessed my team win (I was born in '78, so I missed seeing that championship). 1999 should be another championship year for the Pinstripes.
Although I love today's Yanks,
I cannot help but remember my favorite Yankee of all-time, Donald Arthur
Mattingly. Donnie Baseball dominated in his era and exemplified exactly
how sports should be played. I was ecstatic when the Bronx Bombers
won in '96, but I felt an emptiness in my heart thinking of my hero.

Although I love baseball, I also love football, especially Gang Green, The New York Jets . After years and years of suffering and hearing the ghosts chant "Same Old Jets," Head Coach Bill Parcells guided New York's team out of the shadows of mediocrity and into the championship hunt in 1998-99. Gang Green, this season, clinched its first AFC East title since the AFL-NFL merger and made a courageous run towards the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the team's efforts came up short as they bowed to the resilient Denver Broncos, 23-10. Don't worry Jets fans, we'll be back next year and get revenge on Denver!

One of the biggest sports fans was Jimmy Valvano. Bone cancer tragically took his life prematurely, however, his legacy lives on. Please visit the Jimmy V Foundation and help them battle the war against cancer. Thank you.
