A brief history of the New Dimensions.
The band was originally conceived by Evelthon Michaelides while he was
studying at
the Berklee College of Music in Boston. When he moved back to Cyprus
for good in 1991 he
hooked up with drummer Doros Neocleous (who also studied at Berklee)
and they formed
the nucleus of the band that soon became the longest running jazz/fusion
band in Cyprus.
The band went through numerous series of personnel
changes (anyone who plays jazz
in Cyprus was either a guest or a full member of the New Dimensions)
but the musicians
who stayed in the band for the longest period were:
Evelthon Michaelides (bass), Doros Neocleous (Drums), Adonis Aletras
(guitar), and Mike Michael (trumpet)
Former band members included: Angelos Christou (keys), George Kalopedis
(voice) Irinaeos (Ronnies)Loucaides (bass)
George Krassides (sax) and Rodos Panayiotou (drums).
By 2001 the band decided to take a break from gigging and rehearsing
and their future status is unknown.
They're all active musicians and as fate would have it they all ended
up backing local jazz singer Sarah Fenwick
at the Blue Bar in Nicosia.
