An infant crying in a crib,
A gentle hand is near;
A small child frightened in the night
A soothing voice to cheer.

A young man's life in danger lies,
A skillful hand to heal;
A woman fears in labor,
A knowing voice lends will.

In sickness and in health,
A guiding hand each day;
And when shadows finally dim,
A voice to ease the way.

As we pass from birth to grave
Nurses give so very much
From their knowledge and their spirit,
With their tender words and touch.
