Some Atmosphere Test Help

Nbvcxzasd: hey mr. mitchell
Nbvcxzasd: it's vennada
eescilsm: hi there
Nbvcxzasd: umm question
eescilsm: go ahead
Nbvcxzasd: whats the importance of N-fixing soil bactteria
eescilsm: its the main natural way that nitrogen gets into living organisms
Nbvcxzasd: and thats in the soil and help fertilize land
eescilsm: yep, but people put more N into ecosystems than is natural
Nbvcxzasd: oh kk
Nbvcxzasd: thats all
Nbvcxzasd: i think
eescilsm: ok
Nbvcxzasd: sry i have one more question
Nbvcxzasd: problems caused by sumspots
eescilsm: do you have the reading assignment?
Nbvcxzasd: yah
Nbvcxzasd: i have that it...
Nbvcxzasd: interplanetary medium impact any planet or space craft in its path
Nbvcxzasd: but i dunno what that means
eescilsm: it breaks it
eescilsm: at the end of the packet is where it talks about specifics
Nbvcxzasd: oh ok thanks
Nbvcxzasd: buh bye now...
Nbvcxzasd: i hope i do well
eescilsm: i bet you will

From 2000?

Jasdfghj: mr mitchell?
eescilsm: hi
Jasdfghj: its Jasdf
eescilsm: hi jasdf !
Jasdfghj: i need help!!!!
Jasdfghj: how did earths developing atmosphere allow life to evolve?
eescilsm: ask away
Jasdfghj: i just did
eescilsm: first, the thick n2, co2, h2o air protected the surface from meteorites
Jasdfghj: ok
Jasdfghj: then what?
eescilsm: then, after it cooled enough for oceans, the water protected evolving life from uv
Jasdfghj: ok
Jasdfghj: is that it?
eescilsm: then, after o2 formed ozone, the surface was finallly protected from uv
Jasdfghj: hang on i'm writing this down
eescilsm: and thats the story
Jasdfghj: ok next question
eescilsm: go ahead
Jasdfghj: how does ozone absorb ultraviolet radiation?
eescilsm: it absorbs uv, falling apart in the process
Jasdfghj: does the uv split it?
eescilsm: yep
Jasdfghj: ok
Jasdfghj: how do GHG's trap heat?
eescilsm: they absorb infrared radiation coming from the surface, which warms them up, then they warm the other molecules around them
Jasdfghj: how? or is that not on the test?
eescilsm: the ghg molecules have a shape and arangement of atoms that do not let ir through them.
Jasdfghj: is that on the test?
eescilsm: to ir, a ghg molecule is like a piece of dust to visible light - it won't go through it
Jasdfghj: ok
eescilsm: can you name the gh gases?
Jasdfghj: H2O, CO2, N2, NOX?
Jasdfghj: CH4
eescilsm: not n2, and there are 2 others
Jasdfghj: is CH4 one of the two?
eescilsm: right, one more that also coincidentally causes a more serious problem
Jasdfghj: CFC's
Jasdfghj: ?
eescilsm: perfect!
Jasdfghj: i know
Jasdfghj: on the study guide...
eescilsm: maybe you should get a good night's sleep now
eescilsm: on the study guide ... ?
Jasdfghj: hang on its long
Jasdfghj: it says "Discuss the benefits of energy conservation incidental to control of GHG's"
Jasdfghj: what does incidental mean?
eescilsm: in addition to controlling ghg, what other benefits does energy conservation produce?
Jasdfghj: lowers pollution?
eescilsm: what other pollutants are avoided, how else do we benefit?
eescilsm: yes - which pollutants?
Jasdfghj: components or examples?
Jasdfghj: ?
eescilsm: both - actually most of what we studied would be managed better through energy conservation
Jasdfghj: like driving less?
eescilsm: yep
Jasdfghj: and turning off unused appliances?
eescilsm: yep
Jasdfghj: ok
Jasdfghj: what are some artificial atmosphere components?
eescilsm: also turning off the computer and going to sleep - old folks like me need our rest
Jasdfghj: sorry!
eescilsm: no problem
eescilsm: anything else?
Jasdfghj: i only have 2 more questions
eescilsm: go ahead
Jasdfghj: which components are mixed together to create smog?
eescilsm: do you have the smog handout?
Jasdfghj: which one?
eescilsm: the one on smog - bad ozone
Jasdfghj: i think so
Jasdfghj: somewhere
Jasdfghj: is that on there?
eescilsm: yep - nox, vohc, p/a, sunlight, o2,
Jasdfghj: thanks just one last question (then you can go to bed)
eescilsm: go ahead
Jasdfghj: what are the local sources of VOHC's
Jasdfghj: ?
eescilsm: do you have the handout?
Jasdfghj: i have no idea, probably buried somewhere
Jasdfghj: i'll go find it so you can go to bed
eescilsm: sounds like my desk
Jasdfghj: lol
Jasdfghj: thanks for the help!
Jasdfghj: bye
eescilsm: all sources of fuel vapors - gas fumes from cars and small gas engines mainly
Jasdfghj: great thanks!
eescilsm: good night - and relax! you'll do fine!
Jasdfghj: now you can go to bed
eescilsm: bye
Jasdfghj: thanks
Jasdfghj: bye.
