Caustic Substances

Do not let acids and bases touch your skin or clothing. If a substance gets on your skin, rinse immediately with cool running water.

Never add water to acids; always add acids to water.

Wear protective clothing.

Chemical Safety

Never taste any substance in the lab.

Never ear or drink from lab containers.

Properly label all containers containing chemicals.

Never return unused chemicals to original containers.

Gas Safety

Don't inhale fumes directly. When instructed to smell a substance, wave the fumes with hand towardyour nose and inhale gently.

Always use flammable liquids in small amounts and in a well ventilated room.

Never inhale pure gases.

Explosion Danger

Never use an open flame when working with flammable liquids such as ether or alcohol.

Eye Safty

Wear approved goggles in the lab and never wear contact lens.

Heating Safety

Always keep fire extinguishers and fire blankets close at hand.

Turn off all heating apparatuses and gas valves when not in use.

Waste Disposal

Clean up the lab after use anf follow proper disposal procedures for all chemicals.

Hand Safety

Never touch containers while heating. Use tongs.

Allow materials to cool after heating.

Hygienic Care

Always keep your hands away from your mouth and face during the lab and make sure to wash your hands afterwards.

Clothing Protection

Do not wear jewelry during a lab.

Make sure to tie back loose hair and clothing.
