The F-22 Raptor
This is the fighter that is supposed
to replace the F-15 and the F-16
in the near future.
This fighter was desined by LOCKHEED
and was primary called the YF-22
, NORTHROP
was also asked to make a prototipe for the F-22
that was called
the YF-23 ,bouth
the NORTHROP
and the LOCKHEED assembeled
a prototipe for the F-22.
The decision
was made at 23 April 1991.
The palne
has two Pratt&Whitney
F119-PW-100 (155 kN) with
convergent/divergent
exaust nozzles with trust vectoring(The nozzles
can move "up
and down")whitch gives enhanced preformance and
manoeuvrability.
Becouse this
plane is Stealth
(less visable to radar)all the misiles and
bombs are stored internaly , but for stealth you have to pay a price
the F-22 can
only take a small veriety of weapons : Sidwinders aim-9 (short range
air-to-air misile guided with infra-red),AMRAAMs(medeum range air-to-air
misile guided by an active radar when it reaches the appropriate range
until that range the misile is guided by the planes radar),
JDAM 1000
(guded falling bomb without an engine).
The airplane
alwso has a M61A2 20mm gun.
