CapeCanaveral needs you!
Considering Becoming a CL in the Cape?

Considering Becoming a CL in the Cape?

You've come to the right place!

Thanks for your interest in becoming a Community Leader here in the CapeCanaveral neighborhood. We know you want to know what it's all about, so we designed this page to answer some of the basic questions (who, what, where, when, why, how). You can find more detailed information on our leader application information page.

Who are CLs?

Your fellow homesteaders--volunteers who have a commitment to making GeoCities and CapeCanaveral a better, more rewarding place.

What do CLs do?

Where do the CLs work?

Each CL is assigned a specific part of the neighborhood as his/her very own. CLs are all encouraged to monitor their blocks and get to know their homesteaders. However, each of the CLs also works in a team environment to help all of the CapeCanaveral neighborhood.

When does this work get done?

When everything happens depends on the individual leader. We can tell you that the "average" CL spends about 5-10 hours/week answering email, helping homesteaders, and working throughout the neighborhood. Obviously, some people fit that into their lives in different ways: all of us check email every day, but some of us are involved in long-term projects and others work on things that are more periodic (once/month, like The Cape Horn).

Why should I become a CL?

We need your help, but that's a question you must answer for yourself (and we'll ask you on the application as well). If you enjoy meeting and helping other people, have some neat ideas of activities you would like to see happening in the Cape, and would like to make a difference, then become a CL.

How do I become a CL? How do I help others with GeoCities?

All CL applications are reviewed by the current Cape CLs on a weekly basis (so it might take up to 2 weeks until you know the results). After you are accepted into the program, you will attend GeoU (the Community Leader Training Program) to learn all those details you never knew about GeoCities. But, the first step is to apply! You don't have to be a complete HTML guru to do this!

If you have made it this far and still want to be a CL and think you have what it takes, please read the detailed information and fill out the application form. Please make sure that you and and your site are aware of the rules regarding the applications -- we do not want to delete any applications, but we must delete those of people who do not follow the instructions.

IMPORTANT: In order to become a CL your site must:

  1. Be a developed site (no "construction" signs) that has been in the Cape for at least 1 month.
  2. Have been at GeoCities for at least 1 month.
  3. Meet GeoCities Content Guidelines, including being pertinent to the theme of the CapeCanaveral neighborhood.
  4. Important notice: your page must not display any link related to nudity/pornography/hacking sites, otherwise your application will be automatically discarded. You must also make sure you typed your site address (URL) correctly, because if we cannot find your site or find someone else's site, we will not be able to evaluate you and we will reject your application.

If you are interested in becoming a CapeCanaveral Community Leader, but you do not currently have a site within the CapeCanaveral neighborhood at GeoCities, please email our liaison, and she will direct you through the appropriate application process.
