*How can a plant grow on a bare wall?
A plant needs carbon dioxide, water, and salts. The air provides the plant with carbon dioxide. As for water and salts, a bare wall is not so bare at all. Rain falls on it, providing the plant with water and salts.
*Why can't human beings grow a third tooth?
The first and second sets of teeth are hidden in a person's gums. There is not a third set behind the gums to replace the second set of teeth when lost.
*Do any people have blue blood?
Every person has both blue and red blood. The blue blood is in their veins, and the red blood is in their arteries.
*How did the days of the week get their names?
They were named by early people after their gods. Sunday was the sun's day. Monday was named after the moon. Tuesday was named after Tiw, the Norse god of war. Wednesday was named after Woden, the Saxon god. Thursday was named after the Norse god Thor. Friday was named for the Saxon god Freya. Saturday was named after Saturn.
*Why does a flowerpot have holes in the bottom?
Extra water that the plant does not need has to escape. The holes in the bottom of the pots help the extra water escape. If there isn't a hole, and the extra water remains in the pot, the plant would die soon.
*Where do flowers get their smell?
Flowers get their smells by the oils that they actually make within themselves.
*Why doesn't a potato rot when growing under the earth?
There are two things that protect the potato from rotting: its skin, and the cells that make up the potato.
*What do caps and gowns represent?
The caps and gowns represented the fact that medieval buildings were damp and drafty, and robes were needed to keep warm.
