Kol Yisrael Broadcaster Aryeh Golan Reprimended

Sunday, June 7, 1998

Upon the request of the Israel Broadcasting Authority's Ombudsman, Radio Kol Yisrael Director Amnon Nadav instructed Aryeh Golan, the presenter of the early morning news diary to cease expressing his personal views on the program.  This information was relayed to Israel's Media Watch in a letter received recently.

Responding to a series of complaints tendered by Israel's Media Watch over the past two months, the Ombudsman, Victor Grayevsky, became convinced that Golan was consistently violating the professional ethics code of the IBA.  At the meeting, called by Nadav, Golan was told that he must halt all expressions of his personal views.  Reporting back to Grayevsky, Nadav stated that he felt confident that that Golan fully understood the regulation.

IMW notes that Golan has been routinely chastised for making remarks, jokes and other expressions that reveal his own opinion and subsequently "color" the news on his program.

IMW is a registered non-profit organization whose major aim is assuring the ethical and fair conduct of the Israeli media.
