ISRAEL'S MEDIA WATCH
PROTESTS IMBALANCE ON TELEVISION PROGRAMME .
HIGH COURT OF JUSTICE AGREES TO HEAR APPEAL !
ISRAEL'S MEDIA WATCH, an public advocacy group concerned with journalist ethics, has turned to the High Court of Justice to correct a matter of gross imbalance on Israel's television. The Court has agreed to hear the case (# 4553/95).
The Israel
Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has introduced a "personal
column" into its Week in Review Friday night programme.
ISRAEL'S MEDIA WATCH claims that this is against the IBA's own
guidelines, has not been authorized by the IBA's public council
or any other body and represents a gross imbalance in that the
same journalist has appeared in the past five programmes.
ISRAEL'S MEDIA WATCH demands that the broadcast be halted immediately. It should be renewed only after proper considerations of balance and fairness are adopted which must include a rotation of presenters and that two alternative views be presented on the same programme.
Israel's Media Watch is a non-partisan advocacy group concerned with the ethical and professional standards of the media in Israel.
