Change in Officers
Effective November 15, 1998 Albert RunningWolf was appointed Chair Person, replacing Pat Adams, who
has taken over the spot of Assistant Chair. We wish to thank Pat for her service over the past year and a
half..and to wish RunningWolf well in his new position.
AIM Central Indiana Support Group began working toward the
removal of the bandstand that sits atop this ancient burial site in
March, 1998. Progress has been slow to nonexistent to date.
However as of the last meeting of the Laurel Town Board, they
are finally considering the removal of the bandstand. According
to town board reports, they are considering removal due to
monetary concerns. We would prefer that they realized that the
building and its use defiles the grave site...but we will take what
we can get. Check back for more on this subject.
Our group was recently invited to attend a meeting of the Governors Council for Native American Affairs held in Indianapolis, Monday, Dec, 7, 1998. We were honored to have been asked to appear. While there we met many wonderful people from many different tribal affiliations and groups. Topics discussed included the Native American license plate issue as well as many other issues important to Native people living in the state of Indiana. We would like to report that the meeting went very well. Also after the first of the year, be sure to check this site for a link to a new site we have been asked to help get on the net. Tentative title is "Indigenous Peoples of Indiana". This will be a page listing all tribes present in the state at this time and how to contact them. Also web sites and information about the sixteen recognized Native American organizations operating in Indiana today. There will be a bulletin board of scheduled events such as Pow Wows and meetings. We also hope to have a web ring of personal sites of Native related topics from residents of Indiana.
Recently some of our members have been invited to a number of area schools for presentations. They have been very well received and we hope to do more of this type of work in the future.
Some of our members recently attended a concert and drum show in Covington KY. "White Ship of Peace" from Okinawa Japan, featuring Traditional Okinawan Eisa Drummers, Shoukichi Kina and Champloose, and the Sacred Run Drummers, entertained an enthusiastic audience. Also on hand were peace activist Dave Dellinger and Native American leader, Dennis Banks. It was a great evening.
