Hey kid,

Sorry to let you down, but your letter did not teach us anything. In fact, our viewpoints and our attitudes reflect our own edification as it has developed over the years. Our beliefs reflect our adherence to the traditions and roots of our subculture and our movement. Our beliefs reflect our dedication to our subculture and to our way of life. We know our roots, we want to preserve the tradition and the pride, and we will not be complicit in allowing the perversion of our subculture. We refuse to be apathetic, and will stand up for what we believe in.

We don't need to justify ourselves to anyone. We're not afraid to offend people, or to speak out about the idiocy and hypocricy that we see. People who simply shrug it off and say "everyone has their own opinion; keep politics personel; can't we all just get along?" are fooling themselves. If a skinhead doesn't stand up for what he or she believes in, there where is the pride and the honor? What true skinhead can stand by and let boneheads try to co-opt our scene? Our subculture is a way of life; trying to compartmentalize so you can drink beers with boneheads shows that there is no true allegiance to the roots, to the way of life. Standing up for what you believe in isn't about feeling "guilty" or wanting to be "politically correct." In fact the safest way, the easiest way,the gutless way, the way least likely to offend anyone is to say, "we're all skinheads,skins for skins, blah blah blah." We are not willing to compromise our subculture or our way of life. And for any true skinhead, that can never be a joke.

We are hated and proud. We will always be so. And anyone who has a fucking problem with us can step right up. We are not running away or hiding behind "non-political" labels.

We've seen the skinhead wars of the eighties . . . we've seen the whole "non-political" thing grown and spread . . . we've watched the weak disappear . . . and we're still loud and proud and going strong. If you can't understand why we're still around, or why we aren't afraid to take a stand, then you can't understand what this subculture and this way of life means to those of us who keep the skinhead spirit alive, who will be skinheads until the day we die.

As R. Moreno of the Oppressed so eloquently said: "If you're not man enough to stand up and defend your roots, maybe it's time for you to grow your hair and lose your boots."

That fact that you label the anti-facist movement as left-wing shows your lack of understanding of we stand for, and the problem which we are fighting. This isn't about labelling someone as left- or right-wing and then dismissing them. This is about knowing what you believe in, knowing your roots, and standing up for them. This is about dedication. This is our life, this is our subculture.
