Resolution and call for united action Urgent Action to save the lives of hundreds of students arrested in the recent six days of protest actions in Iran! |

Following the savage attack staged by the Hezbollah thugs and the repressive forces of the Islamic republic regime against the students of Tehran university in the early morning hours of Friday 9th July, 1999 which led to the brutal killing of several students and wrecked the student dormitories, thousands of students began to demonstrate against the regime in the university campus and then throughout the capital, Tehran. |
During the demonstrations, the students protesting the murder of their classmates challenging the regime and chanting blatant slogans against the criminal regime expressed their anger and hatred towards the regime. The student demonstrations very quickly spread throughout Tehran and then to other cities and received the widest support from other sections of the population. |
The fascist regime becoming more and more alarmed about the unfolding student struggles, deploying its anti riot police and various militia forces commenced the brutal suppression of the students. Throughout the six days of street clashes between the students and the repressive forces of the regime which took place in over ten major cities of the country, tens of students have been killed, many have been injured and over 1,400 people have been arrested. |
In order to scare the oppressed masses and the students into submission, the fascist regime has declared that it will apply the death penalty to all those captured in the recent demonstrations. |
Today the lives of hundreds of the militant students is in immediate danger. There is an urgent need to highlight the plight of those in captivity to the international public opinion. We must join an international campaign to save the lives of the students. |
We the undersigned fully condemn the regime of the Islamic republic as a whole, in the planned attack carried out by security forces of the regime against Tehran University dormitories on the 9th July and the murder of several innocent students. |
We strongly condemn the brutal use of violence and suppression against the just and democratic demonstrations of the students in the subsequent popular protest actions in Teheran and other major cities. |
We wholeheartedly support the cause of the Iranian students and other sections of society in their just struggle for democracy and freedom from the tyrannical rule of the Islamic republic of Iran. |
We demand: |
* the immediate release of all political prisoners especially those arrested in the recent events at Tehran University. * the immediate handover of the remains of the murdered students and other victims of the recent atrocities to their families. * the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all paramilitary and other repressive forces of the regime from the grounds of the universities. *the arrest and the public trial of all the perpetrators and those responsible for the recent atrocities against the students. |
