DO YOU BELIEVE IN JUSTICE?

by Claire Wolfe

The Lovin' Spoonful classic "Do You Believe in Magic" as rendered by Denise Woodbury, Boundary County, Idaho, Prosecutor

Do you believe there's justice
In this old girl's heart?
Well, if you think that,
Wait'll the trials start, and it's my justice
When the jeopardy's double.
The feds blew their case, and now I'll cause my trouble.

I'll tell you 'bout my justice, and it'll chill your soul,
Cause it's like using the Bill of Rights for a toilet roll.

If you believe in justice
Don't bother to bitch
If its jeopardy doubled
Or a slap on the wrist, just come and watch me
I'll start with a lie
That I'll rub in your face, and maybe Kevin will die.

Your eyes start weepin' and you can't understand
How we lawyers twist the law of the land.

Do you believe there's justice
In this old girl's mind?
Well the media says so,
They say it's just fine, to bring charges
Against someone twice
My "jurisdiction" they say makes it nice.

You read the Fifth Amendment, no matter how hard you try,
You can't figure how we fit those words to our lie.

If you believe in justice
Come along with me.
I'll bring minor charges
Against Horiuchi, and maybe
If the feds think it's right
We'll fry Kevin Harris one fine midnight.

And I'll go dancin' with Louis Freeh,
'Cause the fix is in the mix between Reno and me.

Yeah!
Do you believe in justice, yeah.
Believe there's justice in this old girl's soul
Believe the Constitution's a toilet roll
Believe that Lon will be quickly set free
Talkin' 'bout justice
(do you believe like I believe?)
Do you believe in justice?
(do you believe like I believe?)
Do you believe, believe
(do you believe like I believe?)
Do you believe in justice?
