Duties of Members of Parliament Represent Constituents; Canadians losing faith in politicians As an M.P. you are elected to represent your constituents. We Canadians are fearful of losing our Universal Health Care System. It is obvious from this letter as to how far Alberta has gone in privatizing and Americanizing its health care. Ontario is following in the footsteps of Alberta. How long will it be before other provinces take this lead? Canadians, not the premiers have a right to determine the kind of health care system they want. If control of health care is granted to the provinces the federal government will be abrogating its responsibility. In addition, the federal government and Canadians will have little or no voice in determining their provincial health care system, just as we in Alberta have no say in determining ours. As Members of Parliament who form our federal government, it is your responsibility to speak for the people and retain federal control of its health care in order to ensure its universality. Canadians do not want a privatized two tiered American health care system. By doing nothing and allowing the federal government to even consider transferring full power to the provinces for health care, you are ensuring the erosion of our health care system to emulate the American model. Do you support what is taking place in health care in Alberta? By turning health care over to the provinces, you will see Alberta's strategies being repeated in all other provinces resulting in the two tiered system, that the average Canadian will not be able to afford. |
