Why do Calgarians Care?
  • Calgarians do not want to be the home of the first for-profit hospital in Canada.

  • The owners of HRG have stated that they are opening because of a shortage of hospital beds in Calgary.

  • Three (3) hospitals have been closed in Calgary since 1993. Now this private group wants to open a hospital that undermines Medicare.
Calgary has a shortage of beds.
Rather than set up a private, for-profit hospital, we should
re-open the General or the Grace Hospital.
[better still - re-open both]
  • A for-profit hospital means everyone will pay more. Studies have shown private health care to be more expensive than public health care. Employers and insurance companies will pay more for administration and for the costs of sending patients there. Albertans will continue to pay more for less in their public health care system.

  • Medical decisions will be based on profit and bottomlines, rather than on medical need.

  • This facility opens the door to American-style health care, where the wealthy get Cadillac service, and the rest of us put up with Edsel service.
