Democrat Ballot Endorsements

San Diego Daily Transcript

Sept. 9, 1998

After a close vote and a lengthy debate on what the vote actually meant, the San Diego County Democratic Party Central Committee decided to endorse Proposition C, the East Village ballpark measure.

After hearing presentations for and against the proposition, 16 committee members voted in favor, 13 opposed and seven members abstained. Observers argued that since a total of 20 members did not support the endorsement, the committee should remain neutral on the issue. Finally it was decided that abstentions did not count as "no" votes and the proposition was endorsed.

The committee also voted to support the Rural Heritage & Watershed Initiative, the state gaming initiative and the $1.5 billion San Diego school repair measure. The group voted against the SeaWorld height limit allowance.
