Note: The Picts had a rare matrilinear society (i.e., succession passed through female lines). Alpin's mother was a Pictish Princess of the Fortrinn (Verturinones) House, which reigned from at least circa 250, who's brothers reigned as High Kings of Alba (Albany) by the fifth century.
