Heart Matters Chapter Eight:

"Ginger, you know I’d do anything for you." Jeff assured her.

"Could you never speak to me again?"

"Never speak to you… why?" At that moment he missed Ginger more than anything else in the world.

"Because every time I talk to you I feel hurt and betrayed. You knew where our son was and you never told me. Do you have any idea how much that hurts?" She couldn’t stop the tears now.

Jeff longed to put his am around her, to assure her that is was okay, "I didn’t know where you were." He defended himself.

"You could have found me. And it’s not like you tried. Even if you did know where I was, would you have told me? I want the truth." she demanded from him.

After a long pause he finally spoke, "Probably not." He admitted.

"Bye, Jeff." She hung up the phone and walked carefully up her stairs.

Jeff sat on the stairs in his house, phone still to his ear, tears streaming down his face.

"I love you, Jeff." Aaron walked down the stairs, kissed Jeff on the cheek, and sat on the step beside him.

Jeff put his arm around Aaron and pulled him closer.

"Why are you sad, Jeff?" Aaron looked up into Jeff’s eyes.

"I’m sad… I’m sad because I lost someone I really care about."

"I’ll help you find her." Aaron promised matter of factly.

"I wish it were that simple."

Jeff woke with a start at three o’clock in the morning and headed down the stairs to Hank’s bedroom in a daze. When Jeff reached Hank’s room he sat down on his bed. "What am I going to do?"

"What?" Hank sat up, confused.

"What am I supposed to do?" Jeff spoke again.

"About what?"

"Ginger."

"I don’t know what to tell you." Hank admitted, "But I gotta ask you something. Do you love her?"
