HO Games Day '99

HO Games Day 99 was held on 25th Feb 99, 1800 hrs, at the NTU Sport and Recreation Centre (SRC). Though the weather was not in our favour, that did not dampen the spirit of all the participated HOs. Although we were partially drenched on the way to the NTU SRC but we were later warmly welcomed by our counterparts from NTU. HOs from both NTU and NUS had turned up with their most strategic team to vie for the trophy.

The first event was mixed basketball competition held in the indoor basketball court. Prior to the start of the game, players were seen practising and mingling with each other on possible strategies. At the start of the game, each team sent out their "Super Trio", invincible pairs and even Jordan in the court. The pace of the match was fast, orderly and yet exciting. Though some of the HOs seldom meet one another in campus, but the game brought out the alertness and cooperative among the HOs within that short period of time. The 1st round was won by NTU with 39 pts against 22 pts.

The weather then had stopped raining and the cool breeze further fuelled our energy to get ready for the next round of mixed volleyball match held outside the indoor court. The 6 perimeter lampposts cast against the night sky set a smooth but cozy environment for the game. Though most of the players were not professional volleyball players, they had shown their sporting spirits possessed while the cheering teams from each side cheered them on. The spectators would busily engaged with the discussion on the match. The game was won by NUS with 15pts against 11 pts against NTU.

With the fuel still burning hot, we decided to have another round of basketball to decide the winner of the day.  The game was more exciting than before. At times, the basketball was vied by up to 6 players with the holder being reluctant to give up their precious possession. The game thus had to be stopped temporarily by the referee to keep the game back in order. The game was finally won by NTU with 22 pts against 14 pts.

At the end of the Games Day, NTU won the "HO Games Day 99" trophy for their prowess performance. However, the event did not just end there, most of the HOs had their late dinner at Jurong Point’s McDonald’s to catch up with one another. Regardless of the seriousness of the topics, HOs would agree that they had spent another tiring yet wonderful night with their follow comrades.
