The Eureka College Republicans met on April 15, 1999 at 7:00 PM in the Burgoo. Those in attendance included: Ron Poliquin, Chairman, Skip Salvesen, Eric Anderson, Dan Struck, and Josh Carter.
In the absence of Ron, Josh called the meeting to order.
Dan read the minutes from the previous meeting. The minutes were unanimously approved.
The web site was discussed. Josh mentioned that Brian Ingrassia, student worker in the college archives was willing to scan pictures of Ronald Reagan on campus to be used on a Reagan web page. This project would be completed some time before the end of the school year.

Eric said that he had obtained roughly 40 names of ECR alumni, dating back to 1980. The names would be used for a Eureka College Republicans newsletter. The alumni department of the college would be willing to create a running name database once the names are fully collected and submitted. Ron suggested that Eric get in touch with Mike Thompson and Allen Fore about other possible alumni names for the newsletter project. Ron suggested that the first newsletter be sent out by the end of this school year.
Several other items were mentioned, including the need for someone to give a write up to the yearbook staff about the 1998-1999 ECRs. The CRNC has said that it will send extra bottle openers to Eureka to give to those who visit the website and sign the guestbook.
Ron announced that JC Watts would be speaking in Bloomington on May 10. Though Watts was unable to schedule a visit to Eureka, it is possible for ECRs to attend the banquet and speech that Watts is involved with.
Officer elections will be held on the night of May 4 at Denny's. Josh volunteered to give extra notice to ECRs to mark their calendars for this event.
Dan Struck moved that the meeting be adjourned. The next meeting was scheduled for the following Thursday, with the time to be announced.
The Eureka College Republicans met on April 8, 1999 in the Burgoo. Those in attendance included President Ron Poliquin, Dan Struck, Skip Salvesen, Tera Harris, Josh Carter, and Eric Anderson.
Chairman Poliquin called the meeting to order. The minutes from the March 31 meeting were read and approved.
A permanent meeting agenda was discussed to include reports from each of the officers and the President.
Members were reminded that April 10 was the day for the retreat to Dixon and Tampico, IL in honor of Ronald Reagan. The trip was scheduled to start at 9:30.
The web site was discussed. Ron asked that his election to the office of state treasurer be posted. Additional member biographies were asked for, and the process of uploading pictures was mentioned. Ron reminded the group that "A web site is only as good as its last update."
Skip Salvesen asked if there was any interest in going to the University of Chicago on April 13 to hear William F. Buckley. The trip would be scheduled to leave at 5:00 PM.
Eric Anderson volunteered, along with Tera Harris to find a list of Eureka CR alumni to facilitate an alumni newsletter. The deadline for the alumni list was set for April 22.
Eric Anderson agreed to call the mayor of Eureka on the Reagan legacy project.
Josh Carter moved to adjourn the meeting. The next meeting was
scheduled for the following Thursday.
Minutes of the March 31, 1999 Meeting of the Eureka College Republicans
The Eureka College Republicans met on March 31 in the Burgoo. Those in attendance included President Ron Poliquin, Dan Struck, Skip Salvesen, Eric Anderson, Tim Denny and Josh Carter.
Brief mention was made of the state convention. There was a lot
of positive feedback. It was suggested that the state committee continue
in its efforts to boost convention attendance.
Ron also extended an invitation for anyone to attend the ICRF cabinet
meeting on April 24.
Ron was made state treasurer at the convention.
The club web site was discussed. Ron said that he would work to find a scanner. Josh said that he would update the site with the latest meeting minutes.
The summer schedule was announced. It includes the Young America's National Conservative Student Conference held in Washington D.C. July 18-24. The CRNC National Convention is also in Washington, July 8-10.
The club's remaining events calendar is as follows: April 10 will be the retreat to Dixon, IL. May 1 at midnight the 1999-2000 officers will assume their new positions following elections at Denny's.
Josh agreed to pursue the possibilities for getting a presidential candidate to Eureka College.
The next meeting was set for the Thursday following Easter Break.
The Eureka College Republicans met in the Burgoo on Feb. 4, 1999. Those in attendance included: Ron Poliquin, President, Eric Anderson, Rachel Rhoades, Dan Struck, Tara Harris, Tom Oliphant, Bridget Unger, and Josh Carter.
Several miscellaneous items were discussed. They discussed Josh developing a roll call chart for keeping attendance, Dan Struck's continued work on the web site and a final call for web site member profiles by the next meeting.
It was again announced that the College Republican National Convention would be held July 7-10 and would cost anyone interested $99 before May 15. There will be a delegation from Illinois attending.
Eric Anderson was instructed to get in contact with the people in charge of the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project to see what we can do to help the group, which is involved in securing Reagan's legacy via naming buildings, etc after the former president.
The Lincoln Day Dinner was announced to the group. It was scheduled for 7:00 at Cerf Center. Club members eat for free. Tom Oliphant was instructed to invite Paul Lister to sit with the College Republicans.
The Illinois State Republican Convention is scheduled for March 25 and 26. The club will cover the hotel costs for the event.
Various final preparations for the Gary Aldrich event were outlined.
Tara was instructed to finish the programs, arrangements on the rest of
the publicity posters were made, Rachel and Tara said they would do chalkings
the night before the event, and it was suggested that there be a donation
box. Finally, the schedule for the evenings activities was set: Dinner
at the Chanticleer at 5:15; Aldrich speaking at 7:30; reception (catered
by Marriott) after the event.
The Eureka College Republicans met in the Burgoo on January 21, 1999. Those in attendance included: Ron Poliquin, President, Tara Harris, Skip Salveson, Tim Denny, Dan Struck, Eric Anderson, and Josh Carter.
Extensive plans for the Gary Aldrich event were made. A meeting to address the faculty and student letters was set for Sunday, Jan. 31, at 11:00. All members who were available were to attend. Ron and Skip agreed to get the Aldrich posters up on Monday. It was also decided that posters would be hung at ICC and ISU during the first weekend in February. Tara volunteered to print the programs for the event. It was agreed that an ad should be placed in the Woodford County Journal.
Ron mentioned the Lincoln Day Dinner of the Woodford County Republicans. The Eureka College Republicans would be expected to tell people when they could eat. It will be held after the Aldrich event.
It was announced that tickets for Dan Quayle's speech in St. Louis on Feb. 2 were available for any interested club member.
The next meeting was set for Feb. 4, 1999 at 7:00 PM in the Burgoo.
The Eureka College Republicans met at the Burgoo on January 14, 1999. Those in attendance included: Ron Poliquin, President, Dan Struck, Linsey Griffith, Tim Denny, Skip Salvesen, and Josh Carter.
Ron announced that the idea for the bowling party would have to be pulled back because of scheduling, in conjunction with the Aldrich visit.
Several assignments were made to prepare for Gary Aldrich. Josh agreed to continue work on the press release. Skip said that posters would be finalized. Josh and Linsey agreed to work on a letter that would be sent to everyone on campus. Ron and Dan were to get a letter out to the other Illinois College Republican groups.
Other preparations for the Aldrich presentation included the need for a campus-wide email announcement, chalkings, advertisements in the Pegasus, and a donation box for the lobby on the night of the event.
It was announced that the Journal-Star ran an article quoting College Republican members on the State of the Union address.
Ron said that as many people as possible were needed to attend the College Republican State Convention (March 26-27). Ron announced his candidacy for the position of Secretary of the Illinois College Republican Federation. Also, the dates for the national convention were announced to be July 9-11 in Washington D.C.
The next meeting was scheduled for January 28, 1999.
The Eureka college Republicans met at the Burgoo on January 14, 1999. Those in attendance included: Ron Poliquin, President, Dan Struck, Bridget Unger, Josh Carter, newcomer Skip Salvesen, and Dr. Hughes, advisor.
Several details of the Aldrich project were reviewed. Ron said that the evening would feature dinner with Aldrich, his presentation, followed by a reception in the lobby. Dan said that he would verify that the auditorium was available. Josh agreed to work with the press release. Skip volunteered to work on designing publicity posters. Ron said that he would talk to the bookstore about carrying Aldrich's book. There was discussion about advertizing on the Free Republic web site as well as placing an ad in the Woodford County Journal.
Dan Struck also volunteered to check on scheduling a party at the bowling alley for Ronald Reagan's birthday.
It was announced that the Eureka College Republicans, along with the College Democrats and Social Science/Business Division, would be sponsoring a gathering in the Gammon Room to watch the State of the Union address at 8:00 on Tuesday evening.
The t-shirts arrived and are available for $13.00.
The next meeting was set for January 21, 1999.
The Eureka College Republicans met at the Burgoo on December 3, 1998. Those in attendance included: Ron Poliquin, President, Dan Struck, Rachel Rhoades, Bridget Unger, Tara Harris, and Josh Carter.
Several items to be added to the club web site were listed. They included the mission statement, member and officer listings, officer bios, a club schedule, and perhaps a page of Clinton jokes.
It was decided that the Starr Report would be presented as the gift at the tree lighting ceremony, representing honesty and integrity.
Ron said that the t-shirts would have to be reprinted because of an error on the first batch.
Concerning the speakers for 1999: Gary Aldrich has confirmed to speak on February 16, 1999. Rep. Bob Barr is still committed to coming in the spring, but the date has not been determined due to the impeachment schedule.
The possibilities for a Lincoln Day dinner fund raiser were discussed, as well as a Reagan birthday celebration at the bowling alley. Additionally, Tara was put in charge of a Reagan birthday card as a club community service project.
No date was set for the next meeting. Announcement of the next
meeting was to be made after Christmas break.
The Eureka College Republicans met in the Burgoo on November 5, 1998. Those in attendance included: Ron Poliquin, President, Tim Neuman, Tom Oliphant, Dan Struck, Nick Mitchell, Eric Anderson, Josh Carter, and Dr. Hughes, advisor.
The meeting began with brief mention being made of the trip to Chicago for Peter Fitzgerald=s election night campaign party.
Ron said that officer elections would be held next week. At that time, several people were nominated (by Tim and Ron) and elected to club membership, in preparation for the officer elections. The new members included: Tom Oliphant, Dan Struck, Eric Anderson, Nick Mitchell, and Josh Carter.
Ron also said that any current officers who do not attend the next meeting would be subject to removal from office and would be replaced by current members.
Finally, the College Republican state convention was discussed. The convention will be sometime in the middle of next semester and attendance was highly encouraged.
The next meeting was set for November 12, 1998 at 7:00 in the Burgoo.
Minutes for the Oct. 29, 1998 Meeting of the Eureka College Republicans
The Eureka College Republicans met at 7:00 PM in the Burgoo on Oct.
29, 1998. Those in attendance included Ron Poliquin, President, Tom Oliphant,
Dan Struck, Tim Denny, Eric Anderson, Lindsay Griffith, Josh Carter, and
advisors Dr. Phelan, Dr. Hughes and Marilyn Hakes.

First, a schedule for the election table in the Cerf center was established. Plans were also made for anyone interested in making a trip to Peter Fitzgerald=s election night party, near Chicago, to meet at 5:30 at the Cerf Center.
Ron announced that the t-shirts were being made. Ron also announced that any current officers would lose their positions if they did not come to the meetings, and would be replaced by newer members.
Ron also mentioned that Congressman Bob Barr had committed to come and speak, and noted that the College Republicans would probably need to cover his travel and lodging expenses.
Finally, someone mentioned that a handout should be created to announce Gary Aldrich=s visit. Aldrich=s visit has been approved and he will be here sometime early next year.
The next meeting was set for November 5th in the Burgoo at 7:00 PM.
The Eureka College Republicans met at 7:00 at the Burgoo on October 22. Those present included, Ron Poliquin, President, Tera Harris, Tom Oliphant, Dan Struck, and Josh Carter.
First, Ron announced that College Republican t-shirts would be made available for ten to twelve dollars.
Second, there was discussion about a table being set up in the Cerf Center to advertise Republicans for the coming election. Tara said she would organize the table for either Oct. 29th or Nov. 2nd. A tentative schedule was set for members to work at the table. Ron and Josh agreed to man the table from 8 to 9. Tom and Dan agreed to be available from 10-11. Other time slots need to be filled. There was further discussion about a potential poll party for election night (Nov. 3rd). No final decisions were made.
Finally, future events were mentioned, including the following: a potential visit by Congressman Bob Barr (R-GA), possibly before the end of the year, a visit by noted author and ex-FBI agent Gary Aldrich, and a Reagan birthday bowling party in February. Brief mention was made of state and national College Republican events in 1999.
The next meeting was set for 7:00 on Oct. 29 in the Burgoo.
