According to the book,  History of Camp Beauregard , ( which was published by the Tilghman-Beauregard Camp No. 1460 Sons of Confederate Veterans, Mayfield KY)  only 15 names can be verified out of so many.  The book is compiled mostly of responce of veterans to an inquiry by Mrs. G.T. Fuller who crusaded for erecting a monument in the early 1900's.   At its peak in December, the camp there consisted of around 5,000 confederate troops.  It was part of the system of forts protecting the flank of Columbus, Ky.  Estimates range between 800 to 1500 men died at this place from various diseases and insufficient medical care and shelter.  It is believed most bodies were sent home or recieved by their familes.  Regretably, so much has been forgotten, so many young men lost.  As I mentioned before, not much is known about the original camp besides the location of the mass graves. Camp Bearegard is hardly known outside of Southern Graves County.

You will see that most of those listed came from the 22nd Mississippi Regt.Inft. The reason for this, obviously in the book, is that Mrs. Fuller recieved a lot of responce from several members of this regiment.  I have not done much research on it or its beginnings.  It is an oral tradition in my family that many young farm boys from around here went up there to join only to be taken to there gravesites by their families a month latter.  I have a list of several regiments known to have been at the camp, but I don't see the need for sending it since no other death and burial places can be proven.

Col. DWC Bonham          22nd Mississippi Infantry  (Black Hawk Rifles)           12/23/61

I found Sgt. Wall and William Parrish on web sites pertaining to those regiments.  After careful examination of the History of Camp Beauregard, I found I had overlooked the death of Col. Bonham.  He died in "a cloth tent after being sick for some time"  the book indicates his body may have been taken home, though.
