On the evening of April 26, 2000, the Gamma Sigma Chapter initiated three beautiful and talented ladies! In addition, the chapter celebrated it's 40th birthday with a reception. Our new initiates are:

Amber Diggs, French Horn
Shannon Paschall, Clarinet
Christie Rivers, Trumpet

The morning of April 29, 2000 marked the initiation of four patroness members:

Althea Crouse
Alberta Irwin
Betty Louis Shephard

The party of a lifetime was held on May 6, 2000 at Chickasaw State Park. The Gamma Sigma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota hosted its annual end of the year banquet and party. This year theme was "Luau." Officers were announced for the 2000-2001 school year. Shana Cox was presented as the nominee for the College Leadership Award, Angela Garrow was given the College Honor Award, and Christina Crouse was awarded the Sword of Honor. Following the banquet, a men's hula contest was held. Allan Wong emerged as the winner, receiving a coconut monkey hula girl as a prize. Robert Johnson came in a very close second, wowing the crowd with his belly dancing abilities. A limbo contest proved to be a popular event for the guests as well as "dance lessons" given by our advisor, Mrs. Gatwood. An evening of dancing and fellowship followed that will once again be difficult to outdo in years to follow.

On the evening of May 8, 2000, we had the pleasure of initiating two men as Friends of the Arts:
Dr. B. Andrew Roby, Chair, Department of Music
Mr. A. Steven Taranto, Director of Music, First Presbyterian Church

Following the initiation of the Friends of the Arts, the chapter bade farewell to its two graduating seniors, Shana Cox and Rachel Turner. Shana is returning to her hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee and will serve at Salem Baptist Church as Music Associate. Rachel Turner will be returning to Wilmington, North Carolina to serve as an R.N.
