Historically, Sigma was always represented at Seton Hall. Through the late 70's and early 80's young men who desired to attain SIGMA were pledged under the flag of any one of several of the surrounding chapters in the North Jersey area. This was the case right up into the early 90's.
In May of 1991 five young men crossed the burning sands into Sigmadom under the banner of the Xi Tau Chapter, Jersey City State College, Jersey City, NJ. These men were: Curtis Vandross, Stefan Ford, Rex Huff, Jr., Isham McCallister, and Thinel Bishop. Vandross and McCallister were students at Seton Hall University at the time. One year later, Tyrone Bates of Jersey City State was initiated into Sigma.
On April 28, 1994 four more young men crossed the burning sands into the Xi Tau chapter, their names were Terrence Barker, alias Konfusion, Tim Alston, alias Broadway, Nigel Coelho, alias Redman, and Jeffrey Jones, alias The Performer. Of these, Coelho was a student at Seton Hall University. During the next two years the idea of chartering a chapter at Seton Hall University, a predominantly white, Catholic University was explored. On October 25, 1995 under the joint banners of the Xi Tau and Chi Sigma Chapters a formal informational meeting was held on the campus of Seton Hall University, in Fahy Hall. Several brothers were in attendance, among them were Bro. Nigel Coelho, Xi Tau Chapter, Bro. Kevin West, Chi Sigma Chapter and a graduate of Seton Hall University, Bro. Larry Mungin, Chi Sigma Chapter and New Jersey State Director. Many interested individuals were in attendance at this meeting and from this, it was deduced that chartering a chapter at Seton Hall would be possible.
Finally, on Monday, April 15, 1996 in Mooney Hall on the campus of Seton Hall University, Romaine Lewis, Eric Thomas and Cesar Espejo were bestowed the light of Sigma. Thus these four brothers: Nigel Coelho, Romaine Lewis, Eric Thomas, Cesar Espejo became charter members of a new chapter, a new beginning. On Tuesday, April 16th Alpha Nu Alpha chapter was officially born and on April 17th the chapter was officially recognized by the University. The chartering ceremony took place at the 82nd Eastern Regional Conference, Secaucus, NJ on Saturday, April 20, 1996, here the members of the chapter were presented with the official charter from the National Headquarters by the Hon. Marvin "Doc" Cheatham, 19th Eastern Regional Director.
