Search Engines
- Excite (Child Abuse)
- excite is the search engine I use most often. It is a good search engine for finding personal home pages and pages for entertainment purposes. However, it doesn't bring up as many informative pages, and I felt like I had to sort through everything to find reliable web pages on the topic of child abuse.
- InfoSeek (Child Neglect)
- Infoseek is a good search engine, but I thought it gave too many articles and not enough sites dedicated to the topic of child neglect.
- Yahoo (Battered Child Syndrome)
- Yahoo was the best search engine for finding informative sites. It gave results of sites that held reliable information often from organizations that research Battered Child Syndrome.
- HotBot (Shaken Baby Syndrome)
- HotBot was a decent search engine. It had a nice progression of relative sites.
I chose to research Child Abuse and Neglect for my Sociology 454 class, because we have been exploring the causes, types and cures for abuse. I believe the topic is worthy of research, so that we can better understand the causes of abuse and work towards prevention.
