FOCUS NEWS in 1998

February
From all reports, O-camp at Eagles Nest in February 1998 was very successful numbers wise, with so many people going, they almost ran out of room for everyone...
March
Small groups here at Joondalup seem to be running well so far, looking at Mark.
April
Continued looking at Mark., around 4-7 people each week, covered some ground on the trinity which I found
useful, expanding.
The FOCUS cross-campus pool and pizza event occurred on 25th April, Great! George of the Jungle *LOL*, a bit juvenile in my opinion...
On the 29th April Merv and Jan Duncan visited the group, talking about Action Partners, which does 'mission' work in many african, middle eastern, and even european countries.
May/June
The groups continued on.
July
Four people represented Joondalup at MYC 98.

On the 29th July a group of 4 of us looked at Colossians 4
regarding evangelism.

A.F.E.S. Photos.......
One of the biggest cross-campus events on the AFES calender is;
Mid Year Conference (5 days of action packed learning and
fun!) The 1998 topic was the death of Christ. Mid year
conference involved students connected with; Christian Union
(UWA and Murdoch), SPECS (Curtin-Shenton Park), FOCUS (ECU),
and Curtin Christian Fellowship. MYC was arguably one of
the biggest and best
AFES
events of the year!!!

One of the most important things we can EVER do
is share the TRUTH about how Jesus (who is the Christ),
did die, and was resurrected (came back to life after
dying),and is able to forgive us for our sins, wrongdoing,
ignoring of, unbelief towards, distrust towards, God the
Creator Triune. Jesus (God's Son or God-the-Son) needs to
be guiding/ruling our life.
Some people call this:
'the gospel'.
The people who made up the FOCUS group were there,
because we share a belief in this 'gospel' idea
which God gave us, and seeing it put into action amongst ECU students.
Some possible positions based on previous structures and constitution, and what they involve doing;
1.(President and/or Treasurer) Main coordinator, of meetings,
general running of group, represents the group as the main
contact.
Works with AFES staff workers,
other AFES student president's, and responsible for AFES
information useful to FOCUS, and some outside liason with
churches/ Uni admin, booking stall day, handling membership
money. etcetra.
2. (Secretary and/or Vice-President)-Mainly responsible
for publicity and profile of the group on campus, recording
outcomes of meetings, sending information to FOCUS members
etcetra.
All student leaders must sign and agree to the FOCUS
statement of faith sheet. (see
"Our doctrinal basis"),
playing a part in this vital part of living life to the max.
(As Jesus says in John 10:10) on campus!

together weekly, about Uni issues, God might use it in
a big way!
... Did anyone see that great column on the back page
of an early 1997 edition of Harumbee about FOCUS. Katrina
wrote a good one!

Many things especially at Uni involve personal response
on our part, one of them is evangelism...
... Its great to see people using the website

... McPrayer(c) 1996 was a FOCUS initiative which is now being used by AFES groups elsewhere in Australia.
