Hiking Camp 1988 Photos page

I was blessed to be part of Hiking Camp in 1987,1988, 1989 as a camper, and as a Junior Leader in 1990 as a 16 year old.
We followed parts of the original Bibbulumun track, which has since been re-aligned further inland, and now has a "serpent" on the yellow triangles, which it didn't on the old Bibbulmun.

At the top of Cardiac Arrest hill, on Day 2 after camping the previous night at Gooralong Brook, near Jarrahdale,
I seem to remember feeling a bit stiff and sore on the morning of Day 2 after climbing the Darling Scarp from South Western Highway up to Jarrahdale on Day 1. The scenery was awesome though!
....
The 2nd campsite was ; "The Swamp", where we had to boil water, and dig our own toilets.(or latrines as they say in some parts of the world).

Campsite 3 was known as Keysbrook, and there was no water there, so we had to carry it in from a river we passed at lunch.
No toilets at Keysbrook either, but a lot more room for the tents, campfire, and kicking the footy.
.........
Day 4 finished a long hike into Whittakers Mill, where there was a nice brook, long-drop toilet facility, grassy areas,

and;

our spares bag!!! of fresh provisions of incredible beverages such as "mammary bovine extract"(aka as milk), food and other essentials arrived.
I took the opportunity to go running on some of the nearby gravel tracks, early on Day 5 (a rest day?).

Then it was "Packs On!" again all the way to our final campsite at Oakley Dam, featuring the beautiful Oakley Falls.
...
A chance to explore the boulders at the campsite for some, and have a few games of "slaps" for others,while some of the girls washed their hair below the dam.

Our final day of hiking was down the Darling Scarp to Pinjarra, where we tasted luxurious delicacies like real ice cream (I ate a full-sized tub),
and headed back to Perth after a week of memorable hiking.
