6 INCH 45km 2006 Photos page
On 17th December 2006 at 5.20am another magnificent seven gathered to take on this tough hilly 45km of running (and some walking for some of us) on the hilly trails of the Munda Biddi.
The same number of runners as in the first 6-inch in 2005.
Cherie,Kaye,Mark,Dave,Jon,Victor,and Nathan.
OPEN Results;
[new course record]
First:...... Dave ......... 3hrs 42mins 05secs
Second:. Victor ......... 4hrs 19mins 31secs
Third:..... Nathan ...... 4hrs 36mins 29secs
Ladies Results;
First: Cherie & Kaye ... 6hrs 10mins
[initial holders of the Womens course record]
New Longest Course time
............ Jon ............. 7hrs 04mins
Bettering the time Jon set in 2005 of 6hrs 25mins
Knowing their limits award
Mark DNF=32km time=4hrs 15mins
Hot, Still and Humid conditions had a lot to do with
the slower course time, but finishing is it's own reward!
Note: Mark was in the race for longer than the winner, but an upset stomach
caused him to dehydrate. He also had the chance to climb
into a support vehicle at 29km [3hrs 01mins into the race]
when he was not yet suffering from dehydration,
although he knew he was having a hard time,
but choose to test himself by going on.

Six Individual photos, all about 17km into the race,
just before the Munda Biddi Trail crossed Del Park Rd.;

Dave stretching his lead...and Cherie and Kaye working together well....
Note the trail cyclist support for Cherie and Kaye which they wisely organised.
The integral role that support volunteers play in this event cannot be overemphasised,
particularly Trents efforts in transporting drinks to the 22km and 34km marks...
Dave went on to post a sizzling race record of 3 hours 42min.
Cherie and Kaye finished in 6 hrs 10 minutes to be the first Ladies to finish after Suzys unsuccessful attempt in 2005.

Victor going extremely well...and Nathan also....
(sorry you have to swing the head until I get to a photoshop software enabled computer)...
Victor posted the 3rd best 6 inch time so far of 4hrs 19min.
Nathans 4hrs 36 was a massive improvement on his 5hrs 25 in 2005.

Mark still going at this stage...Jon only has 4hrs 44min to go.
Due to dehydration related issues Mark aborted at 32km in 4hrs 15.
Jon was pointing out that if it were not for the powerade he would not have any chance of surviving what became a tough 7hrs and 4 minutes.
Thanks to my wife Kathryn for taking the individual photos.
