last updated 14/09/2003........Runtrack II (2003/2004)

After nearly 3 years out of aths, I missed not racing in the summer, and felt my fitness and knees* are improved enough to venture into track season numero X, and the world of AthleticA again.
*Still have a torn ACL in left knee and a torn cartilage in right knee
No racewalking in 2002/2003, but just finetune running speed in 800's 1500's 3000's etc.
Have run an occasional 3000, even a steeplechase a few years ago, and of course many funruns in the winter, but havent pulled on the spikes much since I was at school in 1990-92. Ran a 1500m in 4.52 about that time when I was about 15 or 16, so that gives me a target area to aim at if I get fit enough....... See my PB page

10/11/02; 800m 2min 25...01/12/02; 1500m 5min 30...14/12/02; 3000m 11min 56

Bought myself a bottom of the range POLAR HR monitor from Bikeforce, something I have always wanted to do since I was at Uni when we used to use them in sports science Labs...Tried it out in a reps session for the first time 26/11/02. Worked pretty well.

19/01/03; 3000m 11min.36....and 25min later...800m 2min.33...
02/02/03; 3000m 11min 37...and later... Long Jump 4.92m
(bit of fun doing the LJ something I havent done for about 12-13 years :-))
15/02/03; 1500m 5min 05..............23/02/03; 3000m 11min 16
The 5.05 1500m and the 11.16 3000m is encouraging, and getting close to my P.B.'s. A little disappointed with the 3000m time as I was hoping to get into the 10min zone this time, but still very much "on track" *LOL* to where I want to be, and the track season has been great fun!, plus very helpful in laying the speed foundation for where I want to go in 2003.
State Champs; 09/03/03; 1500m 5min 00 (13th of 15)......State Champs; 14/03/03 10,000m 43min49 (7th of 7)
Jon's top 5 excuses for not getting a PB in the state 1500m 9/3/03;
5.rather hot conditions (dont think this made much difference to the time, just took one a little out of the comfort zone after the race, so probably invalid.)
4. Not enough reps work etc, i.e. I was too busy/LAZY!/disorganized...
3..the pace was rather fast which I expected but didnt handle too well in the 2nd half of the race...
the splits tell the story; 300m; 51secs, 700m; 2.06 (1.15) 1100m; 3.36 (1.30) 1500m 5.00 (1.24)....
2. not enough recovery time between the reps session I did saturday night 8/3 and the race....
No 1 excuse... Busy moving house in the week leading up to the state 1500m....
thats the best excuses I can come up with anyway for missing a P.B. by 8 seconds...although its still a seasons best and and a decent run....next.....
.....
The challenge now is to try and move up a gear fitnesswise to a new! level;
Goals;
1. Put some good times (hopefully P.B.'s; 4.52 and 41.01 the ones to beat) on the board for the;
(a)State 10,000m and (b) State 1500m in March 03....
Results; (a) Failedto beat the 41.01 but 43min 49 is still a good run for now. Time was over 2min faster than the road 10km I ran on 16th February.
Really enjoyed the fun of racing a 10,000m even with a small field.
(b) Failed to beat the 4.52 but 5.00 is still a good run for now.

2. Have a really good road season for 2003, maybe even have a crack at a half-marathon or full marathon in 2003....see my roadrace results here
3. Try to get running at A-grade standard timewise for the big fun-runs....
for a 10km; sub 45minutes is B-grade, sub 38minutes is A-grade.
