*unofficial and based on my wristwatch estimates as I must have failed to set off some of the timing boards by landing on it with my left foot perhaps?(right foot had the timing device strapped to it)...
FUN!!!!great to be racing again...very clear! water...happy with my swim, was actually 78th? (out of 81) out of the water, which is better than in 1998....have a lot of work to do to try and beat my (total time) hillarys 1998 effort of 44min 45secs at the next race in Secret Harbour on 17th February....Overall fitness, and run leg can improve a lot, and cyle leg a fair bit still...maybe a little more on the swim...
There was a one minute silence before the race in memory of Luke Harrop the elite triathlete who died after being hit by a stolen car while in cycle training on the Gold Coast this month. Brother of Loretta Harrop who has done well for Australia in recent years.
17th February at Secret Harbour;
Fun!!!!despite a few minor mishaps; my first significant encounter with jellyfish, battling the rip on the 50m swim in to shore, having to borrow a helmet (forgot mine), to name a few...Enjoyed bodysurfing on a small wave on the way in...,saved myself a bit for the run leg which was better!, and possibly my cycle leg was better too. Much tougher course therefore my cycle and swim splits were a lot slower but so was the rest of the field. Very nice setting to race in...no heat issues as we started the race at 7am...The swim was ESPECIALLY tough for me, really tested me out...
Total time 58min 07.....Placed 64th? out of 79.
Swim 15min 56......(79th of 79..i.e. last..*LOL*)
Cycle 31min 17........(61st of 79)
Run 10min 54**.....
(**I estimate it should have been about 12.54 which would be 12th of 79)
21st April at Quinns Rocks;
Swim was a bit poor, but easier (and better?) than Secret Harbour. A bit "lumpy" and NIL underwater visibility, but no jellyfish this time, and no troubles getting to the shore.
Transition was terrible, lost a few minutes there, really need to plan that so as I dont waste so much time there.
Cycle was the toughest one I've done so far with lots of demanding rolling hills. However I went very well, I think my best cycle leg so far considering the hills.....
Run was ok but when I tried to push the pace about 1km in I got a bad stitch or something, and had to walk that out...Reasonably hilly run course. I estimate high 13-14min based on my wristwatch.
Estimations were pretty accurate....
Official total time: 56min 49secs (83rd of 90 finishers)
....11 DNS,1 DNF...
Swim 14min 14.....(89th of 90)
Cycle 28min 40......(79th ...(or better) of 90?)
Run 13min 55....(43rd..(or better) of 90)
I think at least one person did a 5km cycle leg...but oh well...here
